Brakebills was established in 1678; evidence that an earlier school of magic existed prior to that on the same site is tantalizing but ultimately incomplete. It was named for one Boaz Concord Brakebills, a farmer who owned most of the land in the area, though as far as anyone knows he died ignorant of the existence of the school that bears his name. The school crest, familiar to generations of Brakebills students as "the key-and-bee," may once have had some symbolic significance, but it is now lost to history. Contrary to the popular myth it is not in any way related to any rituals whatsoever for summoning cacodemons.
Since its founding the existence of Brakebills has remained proudly hidden from the wider, non-magical world. To this day it is a closely guarded secret, and any student, faculty member or staff member caught discussing it with a non-magician will be immediately and permanently expelled. Once you leave this website, all traces of it will be wiped from your memory. Your browser cache will also be magically purged. |
